Tip for the Week

Perform at Open Mic Nights

Many local coffee shops host regular open mic nights and they are always in need of talent. They usually have lot's of guitar players, so anything different will be remembered and the regulars will appreciate the diversity in acts. Don't feel left out if you are not a musician; try reading some of your original poetry or, if you are an actor, get a friend to perform a scene. Open Mic Nights are ideal for advertising any upcoming projects and getting your name out to the local community. Also, because anyone from amateurs to professionals will be performing and your audience may be distracted with discussion and coffee, there is less pressure. It is a great way to become comfortable in front of an audience.

Talk to the manager at local coffee shops to find out if they host an open mic night and what the requirements are. When you perform, bring a group of friends.
